Next year, Comcast and the City of Philadelphia will negotiate a new deal allowing Comcast to provide cable services in the city – a “franchise” agreement that gives the company near-monopoly access to our homes and our public rights of way.

In preparation for this negotiation, the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Innovation and Technology has released a public survey and comment form, asking Philadelphians to share their “cable television related needs and interests”.  They want to know what Philadelphians need from Comcast.

MMP released the guide below to help you tell the City what you think is most important.  Read it below, and then click here to fill our the survey, and/or the short comment form online.

Update:  The survey is officially closed.  But you can still submit vital public comments to the city at the link below.  Share your views with us before you click submit on the City form by copying your comment into an email to info@mediamobilizing.org. Comments will provide valuable feedback to the City as they conduct this negotiation.

“What Does Philadelphia Need From Our Comcast Cable Franchise? A Guide to Philadelphia’s Initial Comcast Cable Franchise Survey and Comment Form.”

You can also find a paper copy at your local Free Library of Philadelphia and at selected KEYSPOT computer labs.  The City hopes to collect the majority of our responses to the survey by February 7th although public input will continue past that date.
